Your story matters.
You matter.

You’ve got more questions than answers.

You feel dead inside.

Is it just you and your “faith issues”?

How is religious trauma showing up in your life?

“Kristi has been amazing! She has created a safe space for me to get my thoughts into words and process them, but has also given valuable feedback. She’s been incredibly helpful to me on my healing journey. Highly recommend!”

I Broke Free.

I was scared.
I knew something was wrong with me.
I would never be enough.

Raised in a strict Seventh-day Adventist home, I knew I had to be perfect—perfect in my faith, perfect in my marriage, perfect as a mother. But after having two small children, that perfect world I built began to shatter.

Fear consumed me. I was terrified I wasn’t enough—that my family wouldn’t make it to heaven. The more I tried to control everything, the more I lost myself. I punished my daughter out of fear, I controlled and judged my husband, and the pressure nearly broke me.

Eventually, it did. I ended up in the psych ward, diagnosed with mania and psychosis. But the real breakthrough came when I realized it wasn’t just mental illness—it was caused by a belief system that demanded perfection at any cost.

The journey back to myself was long, painful, and isolating. But I started questioning everything I thought I knew. I uncovered the lies—like discovering my church’s prophet wasn’t who I was taught she was. Though it sent shockwaves through our family and friends groups, we left the Adventist church.

Now I’m living my best life. I’m free to be me, free to breathe. My husband and I worship together at a progressive Christian church, but now I’m free to agree or differ. Free to think and wonder. I’ve developed own authentic spiritual journey.

If you’re on this road, I don’t want you to have to walk it alone. Let’s walk together.

Religious trauma often leads to deconstruction.

What is Deconstruction?

What it is:

  • Often triggered by personal crisis (loss, illness, or recognizing abuse)

  • Often connected to abuse

  • A place of curiosity, questioning, and doubt

  • A space to reflect on your life story

  • A chance for freedom from destructive beliefs & behaviors

  • A journey towards growth, maturity, and depth

  • Oftentimes frightening, freeing, or both

  • It may be about leaving your faith system or it may not

  • A journey as unique as you are!

What it isn’t:

  • Backsliding

  • Rebelling

  • Mental Illness

  • Satan tempting you

  • Demon possession

  • A lack of faith

“A kid that’s being hit by their father knows it. But someone who’s being abused by their church very often has no idea it’s happening until years later.”

— Adam Young, LCSW (The Place We Find Ourselves Podcast)
